My buddy and I split 3 booster boxes of Destined Rivals. This set has some cool cards. I wouldn’t say it’s an amazing set. But a good one. We opened 108 packs. The hit rates seem about average (hard to tell though because you need to open way more to get a good average). Seemed like we got lots of IRs, which is great. We hit one SIR, the crobat. Which I wanted and glad I got it. Here are my top 5 cards from this set 😉
Dishonorable Mention
I’m not saying this is a bad card. But the Market Price is set at around 380$. That’s insane to me, and I’m a bit biased because I usually think the top card in a set is overpriced. This card is cool, but not almost 400$ cool.
I like this card. Cynthia is legendary in the games for being the toughest Champion Battle. Garchomp is her best Pokémon, and this Card shows Garchomp about to Clap Somebody’s Pokémon. That poor soul, we’ve all been there. It’s unique with the stadium in the background and her on the big screen. I didn’t pull this card, but I do want it. I’m waiting it out though because it’s going for around 200$ and that’s tough.
I just put both of these at 4 because I like them about the same, and they’re both Misty’s. Both are pretty polar Pokémon, and the artwork looks beautiful. The Pyduck swimming and the Lapras chilling on the beach are just sweet. They are both reasonably priced at 55$ for the Pyduck and Lapras 30$. I pulled the Pyduck, but I will pick up the Lapras. I know card prices usually go down a couple of months after the set comes out, but paying around 30$ for a card I like isn’t too bad.
Alright, listen. If I were to judge this card strictly on artwork. It wouldn’t be in my top 5. But as a Gen 2 fan boy, I love Crobat with all my heart. And this card shows his personality with all his evolutions looking like complete goons. This artwork is messy, but it makes sense if it’s a Batcave. Super Happy I pulled this card. But it’s up to you if you think this card is worth the 60$.
Alright, alright, last Gen 2 Pokémon I promise. But Typholsion is my guy (or girl) with him or her being my Starter of choice. On top of being my favorite Pokémon, I think it’s a good card with Typhlosion hitting someone with a flamethrower. I don’t care much for Ethan, but they have a move called buddy blast, literary using the power of friendship. I did pull this card, which I’m hyped about. This Card seems to be bouncing around. It started around 35$ and then went all the way up too 55 $ and now it’s hanging out around 40$-45$. Which seems about right.
And number 1 is this bad boy right here. I’m not bais on this one either because Moltres is my least favorite out of the trio. But for some reason, Moltres cards are always stunning. In my opinion, this is the best artwork in the set. It’s currently priced at around 130$, this is an auto buy if it reaches around 100$ flat.
